AFTER a lawyer posted a video clip on his Facebook page showing a pub at a Patong beach hotel in Phuket staying open beyond the legally set time with the loud noise disturbing the neighbours, a senior police officer went to the island today (Apr. 17) and ordered the transfer of five police officers who are locally referred to as the five tigers of Patong, Sanook.com said.
In posting the video clip yesterday the lawyer, Mr. Sittra Biabangkerd, or Lawyer Tum, secretary-general of the Lawyers for the People Foundation, said that this pub broke the current 11 p.m.closing time regulation raises the question whether local police were negligent or not.
Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Roy Ingkapairote had sent Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachet Hakphan, assistant police chief, to Phuket to investigate whether there were grounds to the complaints against this pub.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachet, whose nickname is Big Joke, held a meeting with Phuket provincial police commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sermphan Sirikong, and the superintendent of Patong police station after which he ordered the former to transfer the five “tiger” police officers of the station to work at Phuket Provincial Police Operations Centre.
A committee will now be set up to further investigate the facts to ensure transparency.
