PROFITING from the liberal marijuana use policy that came into effect on June 9 is a vendor in Ang Thong province who is raking in over a thousand baht a day net profit selling small marijuana plants at a local market, Naewna newspaper said today (June 25).
After the policy became effective, possessing and using all parts of cannabis plants, including flowers and seeds, are now allowed. However, extracted content remains illegal if it contains more than 0.2% of the psychoactive ingredient that produces a “high” — tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
Mrs. Khamphai Tothong, 53, has a cart full of small cannabis plants, each around 30-40 centimetres high and warped in black bags, which she is strolling around and selling at Suwaphan Agricultural Market, Talat Luang subdistrict, Mueang district.
This caused quite a stir at the market as this is the first time shoppers have seen marijuana plants openly for sale with many of them having purchased some to take home along with their fruits and vegetables.
Khamphai, who is originally from Sisaket province, said she went with three friends to Buriram province to buy the small marijuana plants for sale at this Ang Thong market.
Over the past three days she has been able to to sell 100-200 of these plants priced at 150-180 baht leaving her with a net profit of over a thousand baht each day.
Cannabis plants are of great interest to people right now as many want to grow them at home for medicinal use.
