THE Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Dr. Thaweesilp Wisanuyothin said after today’s (July 8) executive committee meeting that the number of cases are rising with there being a small wave in 23 provinces and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha urged the public to only listen to this agency’s news on the situation, Matichon newspaper said.
Among the 23 provinces where a small wave has risen are Bangkok, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Phuket. However, infection is decreasing in 54 other provinces.
Moreover he admitted that the daily Covid tally only mentions patients who have been hospitalised with there being an average of 29,000 patients getting treatment on outpatient basis under the “see, give, end” system during the 26th week or a total of 207,643.
The Public Health Ministry said this morning that there were 2,144 new Covid cases and 20 deaths over the past 24 hours, with 1,946 more patients having recovered, while altogether 25,082 patients are still hospitalised.
“An interesting figure is that 763 are in serious condition with 327 requiring ventilators. Bed occupancy at level 2-3 is 11.90%.
“On this Gen. Prayut emphasised that reports on infections by several media outlets including data released by academics might not be consistent or even contradictory and he therefore underscored at the meeting that CCSA and the Public Health Ministry, especially Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, cooperate and follow CCSA’s data,” he said.
It was also true that the number of pneumonia cases had increased slightly this week but Anutin mentioned that there were enough beds for patients, he added.
While the number of fatalities had decreased Anutin did not want that to happen so urged the 608 risk group, that is the elderly over sixty years of age, those suffering from chronic diseases and pregnant women, to get vaccinated to prevent severe symptoms or death.
Dr Thaweesilp added that cases had soared in Phuket, which is a big province, as well as in Bangkok and it is neighbouring provinces plus tourism provinces with some of the provinces affected being Chiang Mai, Rayong, Tak, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon, Chainat, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Songkhla, Krabi, Phang Nga, Narathiwat, Trang, Pattani and Yala.
