BANGKOK Governor Chadchart Sittipunt today (July 18) said that no new Covid clusters had been created through the holding of movie and music festivals in the capital after the Public Health Ministry asked Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to reduce large-scale events, Sanook.com
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary Kiattipoom Wongrachit urged BMA to reduce such large-scale gatherings as there is a risk they could help spread Covid-19 especially the Omicron subspecies BA.4 and BA.5 that spread faster and are more prevalent now.
However Chadchart pointed out that over the past few days the total number of Covid cases in Bangkok had either stayed stable or edged up slightly. Moreover there are enough beds to accommodate yellow-and red-category patients with most of those infected recovering by taking medicine at home.
BMA’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Mrs. Wantanee Wattana mentioned that while statistics show an increase in the number of Covid patients with Omicron mutants BA.4 and BA.5 now spreading in the country, it should be noted that a large number of Bangkok residents had been vaccinated with upto 80% having received three jabs.
Moreover BMA had carried out various activities in keeping with relaxation of control measures by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to stimulate the economy.
The two festivals, music in the garden and movies in the open air, made people happy, she said, while underscoring that no clusters had been found through holding them.
Meanwhile the Public Health Ministry said this morning (July 18) there were 1,814 new cases and 17 more deaths over the past 24 hours taking the cumulative confirmed total since Jan. 1 to 2,337,408 and since the start of the pandemic 4,560,843.
The 17 fatalities raised the death toll to 31,013.
Another 2,361 patients were cured taking total recoveries since Jan. 1 to 2,338,601 with 22,735 patients still undergoing treatment.
Altogether 140,743,315 doses of vaccines had been administered nationwide from Feb 28, 2021 to July 17, 2022.
