Singaporean woman dies after slamming sedan into a bus in Phuket

A SINGAPOREAN woman driving a sedan up Phuket’s Kata hill at high speed at midnight last night (August 12) hit a bus coming downhill and later died with her four passengers and three others in the bus getting injured, Matichon newspaper said this afternoon (August 13).

Pol. Capt. Chanarong Prakongkua, deputy inspector at Karon police station, rushed to Patak road crossing this hill upon being alerted of the accident together with rescuers from Rawai and Karon units plus ambulances from Patong, Vachira Phuket and Thalang hospitals and Kusalatham Phuket Foundation.

Upon reaching the steep curve where the accident occurred they found a tourist bus parked at one side with the front damaged and debris strewn on the road. Three persons including the driver Mr. Anirut (surname withheld), 32, a South Korean guide and an interpreter were injured and all quickly taken to Chalong Hospital for treatment.

The sliver-coloured sedan nearby was much more heavily damaged, spilling oil on the road. Four Singaporean tourists travelling in this car were injured while the driver, identified as Ms. Ho Jia Hui Renee, 21 died. She had been trapped in serious condition within the wreckage and rescuers used a stretcher to open it and get her out but she later died in the hospital.

Police said the sedan carrying the Singaporean tourists was heading from the city up Kata hill at high speed but the driver lost control and hit the bus coming downhill after dropping off tourists. However police will continue investigating to determine the exact cause of the accident.
