A PILOT project to kick off an app called “Open Sky” for those who want to fly drones in Bangkok and nearby areas to conveniently request permission to do so was unveiled today (Sept. 1), Matichon newspaper said.
This project is a collaboration between Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd (Aerothai),the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and Delv Aerospace Company, the software developer.
Mr. Nopasit Chakpitak, Aerothai’s president, said the system has been designed in accordance to the regulations currently in place with key government agencies in charge of security supporting it including the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission, the Army, Navy, Air Force and police.
Also involved are operators of public and private airports in charge of aircraft take-off and landing within the demarcated zone.
The initial pilot area in Bangkok and its adjacent provinces is a radius of 65 kilometres from Don Mueang Airport.
The public can download the app from the App Store or Google Play and submit their request for permission to fly a drone. This request will be forwarded to relevant government, security and private sector agencies to consider and approve as quickly as possible.
