Polling agency probing Chinese pub capitalist donating 3m baht to Palang Pracharat

THE Election Commission said today (Oct. 28) it is investigating the facts behind a Chinese man who now has Thai citizenship and is possibly linked to a pub raided by police having donated 3 million baht to Palang Pracharath Party and if found that a wrongdoing has been committed it could lead to this party being dissolved, Matichon newspaper said.

The polling agency’s move came after Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin, who is the head of the Palang Pracharath strategic campaign team, had admitted last evening that Mr. Chainat Kornchayanan, who according to rumours could be linked to a popular pub in Yanawa district raided by police the previous day to break up a drug party, had donated 3 million baht to the party last year.

The Election Commission said if there is a complaint against a political party or it becomes apparent to the registrar that the party had violated regulations that could lead to its dissolution according to Section 92 of the Political Parties Act B.E. 2560 (2017), he has to immediately assign officials to verify the facts.

After that either the registrar or the secretary-general will check the evidence and if it is clear that wrongdoing had been committed to the extent that the party should be dissolved then their opinion will be submitted to the commissioners for consideration.
