Most Bangkokians prefer Move Forward Party leader for PM: NIDA Poll

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

MOST BANGKOKIANS prefer Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat to become prime minister after the next general election, says a recent opinion poll.

According to the National Institute of Development Administration’s (NIDA) poll conducted among 2,000 Bangkok residents earlier this month, 20.40% of all respondentsĀ  preferred the Move Forward top leader the most for head of a post-election government.

The NIDA poll has found 15.20% of the respondents of the capital city picking Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who has been allowed by court to prolong his rule until 2025, for prime minister again whilst 14.10% of the Bangkokians chose Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai party boss/former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

That compared to 7.70% of the respondents who voted for Thai Sang Thai party leader Sudarat Keyurapan, 6.85% for Chart Pattana Kla party leader Korn Chatikavanij and 6.35% for Thai Liberal party leader Seripisut Temiyavej, among others.

Following the 2019 election, Prayut was successfully named Palang Pracharath candidate for head of government, given overwhelming votes from 250 senators all of whom were handpicked by the junta in the 2014 coup which the then-army chief Prayut himself had orchestrated.Ā

Meanwhile, the NIDA poll has found 28.60% of the Bangkokians who have the right to go to the polls speculated early next year, saying they prefer Pheu Thai candidates to run for MP in party-listed mode, compared to 26.10% who say they will vote for Move Forward contestants, 9.15% for Palang Pracharath contenders and 9.00% for Democrat candidates.

The poll has also found 28.50% of the respondents preferring Pheu Thai contestants to vie in constituency-based mode, compared to 26.45% who say they will vote for Move Forward contenders, 9.50% for Palang Pracharath candidates and 9.45% for Democrat candidates.

In the previous election, the Palang Pracharath Party headed by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan got 12 MPs in all of Bangkok’s constituencies, compared to nine MPs secured by the Pheu Thai Party and nine MPs won by the Future Forward Party which was then legally dissolved and practically renamed as the Move Forward Party.Ā
